Deogarh: Police arrested Ramesh Garia, accused of killing three members of his family, from his village in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Saturday.
Ramesh Garia (52) was nabbed at Gariapalli village under Kundheigola police limits.
According to sources, Ramesh had climbed up the water tank in the village and was found hiding there this morning. The villagers informed Kundheigola police and gheraoed the water tank to stop him from escaping. Soon, police along with fire services personnel reached the spot to capture him. There was a standoff at the water tank but he was soon nabbed and carried in a police van with hands tied to the primary health care centre at Kundheigola for a medical examination. The doctor there revealed that he had consumed poison, and was refusing treatment. Following which, he was shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Chhatabar.
Ramesh had allegedly bludgeoned his wife Gul Garia (42), daughter-in-law Lipi Mahakul and four-year-old granddaughter to death with a hammer on Wednesday night following a heated argument with his wife. The accused went missing soon after the killings.
