Women Conquer The Sky And Land On Women’s Day

Indian Railways and Air India decided to make Women’s Day memorable by handing them complete charge to power and manage some of the most sophisticated and cutting-edge aircraft like the Dreamliner and next-generation locomotives hauling passenger trains.

It goes without saying that women have proved their mettle in handling heavy-duty machines with elan, be it on land or in the air.

Several Air India flights on both domestic and international routes are being operated and managed by women only — right from the pilots on board and cabin crew to the ground-handling staff. These include the Delhi-San Francisco flight, one of the longest haul flights in the world at 16 hours.

Indian railway has given charge to all women crew to run some trains on various zones. One such example is the 17301 Mysuru-Dharwad Express.

South Central Railway has also introduced all-women stations and has deployed women staff to take up all activity, from train operations, ticketing, security to other duties.

These stations include Begumpet (Secunderabad Division), Vidyanagar (Hyderabad Division), Chandragiri (Guntakal Division), New Guntur (Guntur Division) and Ramavarappadu (Vijayawada Division). In addition, 35 women staff have been deployed at the Bogie shop in Routine Overhauling Depot at Vijayawada.
