Mumbai: Anaya Bangar, daughter of former India allrounder Sanjay Bangar, on Saturday revealed that she has undergone successful gender-affirming surgery in Thailand.
Born a male named Aryan, Anaya decided to transition to a transgender woman a few years ago.
In a heartfelt post on social media, along with a picture alongside her father, Anaya shared her personal journey, reflecting on the emotional process and the support system that helped her.
“This journey wasn’t easy.. not just for me, but for my family too. Understanding, accepting, and standing by me took time. It wasn’t instant. There were moments of confusion, questions, and growth for all of us. But today, standing here, I’m filled with nothing but gratitude,” Anaya wrote on her Instagram handle.
Her father’s role during such a crucial phase meant the world for Anaya.
“To have my father beside me through one of the most important moments of my life means everything. His support didn’t come overnight but when it did, it was real, unconditional, and strong. This surgery was a big step for me, but having him with me made it feel possible. Growth takes time. Love takes time. But when it comes, it’s worth everything. Grateful. Always,” Anaya expressed.

Anaya followed in her father’s footsteps, playing age-group cricket domestically for Mumbai U-16, and also featuring in Pondicherry U-19 and Mumbai U-23 trials.
It was in 2023 that her transition became public after she began Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), sharing parts of the process on social media.
In a recent interaction with Lallantop, Anaya spoke candidly about her challenging journey, including incidents of harassment within the sporting space.
