Bhubaneswar: Poetry and inclusivity were celebrated together on Saturday to mark World Poetry Day and World Down Syndrome Day.
A special evening at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here brought together poets, parents and members of the community to celebrate the power of words and highlight the importance of inclusion.
The event, organised by Ketaki Foundation Trust in collaboration with Swabhiman, began with an introduction to the significance of the dual observance by Jyotiranjan Swain. The programme was then conducted by Pabitra Mohan Kar.
The participation of children with Down Syndrome and their parents added warmth and a deep sense of connection to the programme. The evening also saw reflection on inclusivity, community and the importance of embracing diversity in society.
Noted social activist and Swabhiman Dr Sruti Mohapatra, who was the chief guest, spoke about the need for greater awareness, acceptance and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Eminent poets Manua Das, Bharat Majhi, Biyotprajna Tripathy, Bharadwaj Mishra, Satya Ranjan Praharaj, Rasmita Behera and Pabitra Mohan Kar took part in a poetry-reading session. Their recitations reflected themes of humanity, empathy, and shared experiences, which resonated deeply with the audience.
Dr Rabindra K Swain reflected on the significance of such initiatives in fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society.
