Bengaluru: A 26-year-old man, an alumnus of IIT-Bombay, has landed in serious trouble after alleged unruly behaviour on a flight from Jaipur to Bengaluru and then making unsavory remarks against the police for detaining him.

The Bengaluru Police have now charged him under various sections and sought his appearance.

Trouble started on March 22, when the youth was travelling to Bengaluru from Jaipur by IndiGo flight 6E 373. It was alleged that he attempted to open one of the aircraft’s emergency exits Mid-Air. The result could have been catastrophic had cabin crew not reacted promptly.

It has been alleged that the young man abused and threatened airline staff after he was restrained. Upon landing at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, he was handed over to the CISF and then the police, as reported by News 18.

A non-cognisable report was filed at the police station on the basis of a complaint by an airline staffer and he was a taken in for questioning, TOI reported. According to the police, his unruly behaviour continued during the questioning, stretching the session to nearly three hours.

The youth’s father and a friend reached the police station and informed officials that he had been undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder over the past year. He was currently unemployed, despite having previously worked in London and with prominent corporates in India, they said.

He was subsequently released after giving a statement and his father took him to Jaipur on the same day.
That was not the end of the matter though. Later that night, the youth posted a series of abusive videos on X and Instagram targeting the Bengaluru Police. He reportedly claimed he had been “arrested” without cause and accused the police of assaulting him at the airport in one of the posts. He also called on the Mumbai Police to take action against their Bengaluru counterparts.

The Bengaluru Police denied the arrest or assault charges. They booked the youth for public mischief and defamation, and his father has reportedly been asked to take him back to Bengaluru for further proceedings.
