Bhadrak: A young man lost his life on Thursday after drowning in the Salandi River in Odisha’s Bhadrak district while shooting a video reel for social media with friends.
The deceased has been identified as Mithun Nayak, a native of Keonjhar district.
According to sources, Mithun and his friend Himanshu Nayak jumped from a bridge into the river under Puruna Bazar police station limits in Bhadrak city to create content for a social media reel. A third youth remained on the bridge to record the footage. While Himanshu managed to swim back to safety, Mithun went missing in the waters.
Alarmed by his sudden disappearance, the friends immediately raised an alarm informed the police. Teams from the fire services and the Odisha Disaster Action Rapid Force (ODRAF) arrived at the scene and initiated a search and rescue operation. After around two-and-a-half hours of intensive efforts, Mithun’s body was pulled out from the river. It was later sent to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem.
Sources further stated that both Mithun and Himanshu had traveled from Keonjhar to Bhadrak in search of employment. They were reportedly in an intoxicated state at the time of the incident.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
