New Delhi: Indian diplomacy is strong and can play a bigger role in bringing about peace, Dr Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the representative of Iran’s supreme leader in India, said even as the West Asia crisis entered its 6th week.
“We have to talk about peace. We have to bring peace to the world,” Ilahi said.
The war was a “very big mistake” and not just against Iran, but against the whole world, with people across countries suffering, he added.
“Indian diplomacy is very good, and they can also play a more significant role in this issue… From the beginning, it was a very big mistake. It wasn’t just this war against Iran, but this war was against all human beings; it was against the whole world. You will see that the result of this war is that a lot of people in different countries are suffering at the moment…,” he said, as reported by News18.
Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, has earlier said that New Delhi could play an “effective and positive” role in reducing tensions between Iran, the US and Israel. He had pointed to India’s balanced foreign policy and ties with all sides.
Fathali had said this after US president Donald Trump announced a temporary pause on escalation and sent a 15-point ceasefire plan to Tehran through Pakistani intermediaries.
India’s strong ties with Iran have helped in keeping the energy crisis in the country in check. On Sunday, another India-flagged vessel, Green Asha, crossed the Strait of Hormuz safely. This is the ninth Indian tanker to pass through the route since the conflict began.
There are several more Indian tankers waiting to the west of the Strait, awaiting clearance from Iran. Sources in New Delhi said that interactions are underway with Tehran.
