Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, a jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) died after a tree fell on him at a camp located in the Saranda forest in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
As per sources, the incident occurred at the Babudera CRPF camp located under the jurisdiction of Jarailkela police station when the victim was resting.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, a constable of the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA).
As per preliminary information, a large tree suddenly got uprooted and collapsed onto the camp, striking Kumar on the head and leaving him critically injured.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ranchi for treatment. However, the jawan succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Security personnel expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death, terming it an irreparable loss for the forces.
Following the mishap, an investigation has been launched by the local administration and authorities concerned to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
