Bhubaneswar: The body of woman was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in her rented accommodation in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The incident took place at a hostel situated under Kharavela Nagar police limits. The deceased, who hailed from Sidhamula under Khandapada block in Nayagarh district, was working as a data entry operator at a pharmacy.
It was claimed that the young woman took a photo of herself while taking the extreme step and placing the noose around her neck, and sent it to someone on social media before ending her life.
According to sources, the woman had gone to the market to purchase fish with her roommate. “I went for a bath after returning home. Later, I found she has locked her door from inside,” her roommate told a local news channel. She informed the house owner and they peeped through the window to find her hanging from a dupatta.
The house owner informed Kharavela Nagar police. A police team visited the site and recovered the body which was sent for post-mortem at Capital Hospital. “When I came here, the police informed me of her death,” her brother said.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Scientific teams are gathering clues at the hostel and her mobile phone has been seized.
The deceased may have streamed a live video on social media before taking the extreme step, a police source said.
