Tehran: Iran scorned US President Donald Trump’s boast that it had agreed to keep the vital Strait of Hormuz open permanently, unleashing sarcasm on Saturday through a post on X by its embassy in Zimbabwe.
“Try not to show yourself too happy. Have a little prestige; 2. Never, (emphasize) never think to the new legal regime of the Strait of Iran. We will fix it; 3. Turn off the phone, relax, no more posts and, block Bibi for one week; 4. Eat a light dinner and sleep well,” the embassy posted.
Trump Touts Hormuz, Nuclear Pact
The response followed Trump’s flurry of Friday posts on Truth Social, where he declared: “Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the world.” This came after Iran affirmed the key waterway would stay open during the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, as reported by News 18.
Trump further boasted that Tehran would relinquish its “nuclear dust” to the US, dubbing the day “a great and brilliant day for the world.”
In another post, he affirmed: “The naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete,” tying it to ongoing peace negotiations. He also claimed: “Iran, with the help of the U.S.A., has removed, or is removing, all sea mines!”
Iran Rejects Claims, Blockade Alert
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf slammed Trump’s remarks, accusing him of “seven false claims in one hour.” He stressed Iran could still close the strait if facing US aggression like a naval blockade.
The spat highlights ongoing US-Iran frictions even as ceasefires hold in Israel-Lebanon and diplomacy advances, with the Strait of Hormuz’s reopening to shipping marking a tentative step past major de-escalation obstacles.
