Jajpur: A Tehsildar was critically injured after being run over by a tractor a raid against illegal mining activities in Vyasanagar area of Odisha’s Jajpur district.
Sources said that Tehsildar of Vyasanagar Prashant Kumar Nanda was allegedly run over by a tractor during a raid at Mina Bazaar square under Korei police limits on Friday. He is under critical care at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
After receiving information about mineral being extracted illegally, Panda visited the site along with a team to carry out a raid. They found workers with two JCB machines and six tractors were engaged in illegal extraction and began questioning them.
Officials said the Tehsildar stepped out and other team members to stay back. However, he fell down and a tractor ran over him, revenue inspector Itishree Senapati told a local news channel.
His colleagues rescued him with severe injuries on feet and hands, and admitted him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Korei. They also informed officials at Korei police station, who have begun an investigation. Senior administrative officials of Jajpur went to visit Panda at the hospital.
“This is an intentional attack by mafia. The intention was to murder him,” Sapan Kumar Nanda, Additional District Magistrate, Kalinganagar alleged. He asserted that intimidation tactics will not work and action against sand, quarry and mineral mafia will continue.
