Balangir: Three days after a mild earthquake, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, struck Kalahandi district tremors were again felt in parts of Balangir district in western Odisha early on Saturday morning.
The tremors were reportedly felt around 4:40 am, waking many who were asleep. The intensity and exact location of the earthquake have not been officially confirmed. Residents, however, have been advised to stay alert and follow standard earthquake safety protocols, such as “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” during any future tremors.
According to local accounts, household items shook briefly, glass doors and windows rattled loudly, and the ground vibrated for a few seconds across several areas of the district, including Bolangir town, Deogaon, and Atgaon. While the quake caused no reported damage or injuries, it left residents frightened and anxious.
Many people described the sudden shaking as alarming, prompting them to step outside as a precautionary measure. “The tremors were mild but noticeable enough to wake us up,” some locals recounted.
On April 29, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in areas like Bhawanipatna, Junagarh, and Kesinga in Kalahandi around 7:42 pm, with another low-intensity tremor noted subsequently. No major damage was reported in those events either.
Odisha falls largely in seismic Zones II and III (low to moderate damage risk), but western districts like Balangir and Kalahandi have experienced occasional seismic activity.
