Balasore: A sand-laden Hyva truck allegedly deliberately rammed into the official vehicle of Additional Tehsildar Krushna Mohan Singh during a chase on National Highway-16 near Soro in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday.
Miraculously, neither the Additional Tehsildar nor his driver sustained any injuries, though the government vehicle suffered significant damage to its rear.
Acting on specific intelligence about illegal sand smuggling operations, Additional Tehsildar Singh and his team positioned themselves on NH-16 near Soro to intercept suspect vehicles. They successfully stopped two sand-laden trucks, but one Hyva truck attempted to speed away.
The officials pursued the vehicle. Singh’s team overtook the truck and positioned their car ahead to force it to stop. Instead of complying, the truck driver allegedly accelerated and collided with the rear of the government vehicle in an attempt to break free. The impact damaged the car but brought the Hyva to a halt.
The truck’s windshield was reportedly shattered in the collision.
On being informed, Khantapada police immediately reached the spot, seized the truck, and detained the driver for questioning. A detailed investigation is underway.
