Phulbani: A young woman lecturer was found hanging at her rented apartment in Odisha’s Phulbani town of Kandhamal district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Tejashwini Padhi, a resident of Sriram Nagar in Berhampur. She was working as a guest lecturer at Sanjay Smruti Government Women’s College.
According to sources, Padhi lived in a rented house near Madikunda Square in Phulbani. Her landlord became concerned when he was unable to contact her and she did not answer the door. He alerted the police, who informed her family.
Upon their arrival, police broke open the door and found her body inside.
“The landlord noticed a foul smell emanating from the residence, which was locked for more than a day. A team was then sent and the door was opened in presence of her mother and brother. The entire process was videographed,” SDPO Phulbani Subhrajit Biswal told reporters.
He further stated that the body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem.
While police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation, preliminary probe indicate that she died by suicide.
