Berhampur: A worker was critically injured after being trapped under a concrete mixer machine when it overturned at a bridge construction site in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
As per information, the mishap took place at Tilisinghi village under the jurisdiction of Bhanjanagar police station in the district.
Sources said the mishap took place while construction work for a culvert was in progress near the village. A concrete mixer machine being used for the casting work lost balance and overturned, causing chaos at the site.
A mason got trapped under the heavy machine, suffering critical injuries. Two other workers, who were present at the site, escaped with minor injuries.
Following the accident, local workers and some villagers alerted authorities. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and immediately launched a rescue operation to pull out the trapped worker. Efforts are underway to safely pull him out.
The mishap has raised concerns over safety measures at the construction sites, particularly in rural infrastructure projects where heavy machinery is often operated under challenging conditions.
Sources said a probe is likely to be conducted to ascertain the cause of the accident.
