Jajpur: At least five people, including two women, were killed and seven others injured when an SUV carrying them rammed into a truck in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday.
As per police sources, the accident took place near Barada Chhak on the Daitary-Paradeep express highway under Jenapur police station limits in Jajpur district.
Police said 12 people, including three women and two children, were returning home in the vehicle after attending a marriage ceremony in Keonjhar when the mishap occurred.
The victim were residents of Purusottampur Sabara Sahi village under Badachana block.
While five persons reportedly died on the spot in the accident, seven others, including the driver, sustained injuries.
The injured were rescued by locals and police and shifted to Badachana Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
On being informed, a police team visited the spot and launched a rescue operation. Efforts were made to clear the road and restore normal traffic movement. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
