Mumbai: Actor Kriti Sanon recently opened up about the challenges she faced as an outsider in Bollywood, reflecting on the ongoing debate around nepotism in the film industry.
Speaking candidly about her journey during an interview with GQ, the 35-year-old actor shared that there were times when she lost roles to star kids despite auditioning for projects, adding that navigating the industry without film connections was not always easy.
Speaking about her struggles as an outsider, Kriti shared, “Before Mimi, I went through phases of frustration…wanting to do more – knowing I was capable of more, but lacked opportunities. There were roles I came very close to that eventually went to star kids, something that was beyond my control. When you don’t come from a film background, there’s a great amount of uncertainty you have to deal with. It has been a process of gradual growth, with me taking risks and making more intentional choices. I have earned every opportunity; nothing has been handed to me.”
The massive appreciation and success of ‘Mimi’ became a major turning point in Kriti’s career, with the actor enjoying a strong run at the box office in recent years through films that connected well with audiences.
But amid those achievements, Kriti also experienced several disappointments.
During the same interaction, the ‘Do Patti’ actor opened up about a phase in her career when she constantly felt close to landing opportunities, only to eventually lose them.
Kriti also admitted that there was a time in her career when she ended up making choices that did not contribute much to her growth as an actor.
She described that phase as extremely confusing, recalling how it often felt like “nothing was working” despite her efforts.
Looking back, however, Kriti said she is thankful for those experiences because they helped shape her both personally and professionally.
