Cuttack: In a disturbing incident of violence, three persons sustained grievous injuries after an alleged sword attack by unidentified miscreants in Odisha’s Cuttack on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident reportedly occurred at Mundali barrage under Baranga police limits.
According to sources, Kanhu Dalei of Sanamundali village was having dahibara at a roadside eatery around 1 pm. Suddenly, two motorcycles carrying three men each stopped near him. Before anyone could gather what was happening, the six men attacked him with weapons, including swords.
When the owner of the roadside eatery Ranjan Kumar Rout and a nearby betel shop owner Anil Kumar Lenka rushed to save Kanhu, the miscreants also targeted them before fleeing the scene on motorcycles. Kanhu is stated to be in a critical state. All three were immediately shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, where they are undergoing treatment.
After receiving information, Cuttack Zone 4 ACP and Baranga police arrived at the spot and launched an investigation into the assault in broad daylight. Police are recording statements of eyewitnesses and scanning footage from nearby CCTV cameras to establish the identities of the attackers.
This coordinated and planned attack was suspected to have resulted from a previous enmity over the sale of alcohol, a police source said.
