Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, a man died after the motorcycle carrying him to a hospital for emergency treatment in Odisha’s Malkangiri district allegedly ran out of petrol on the way.
Sources said the incident took place at Kusumput village when the man, identified as Basant Khil, sustained critical injuries after falling from a tree while plucking mangos. His family immediately tried to take him to hospital as Mathili on a bike, but the vehicle reportedly ran out of petrol midway.
His family members and locals alleged that petrol was not available in the nearby fuel outlet, forcing them to look for another mode of transport. An ambulance was finally contacted, and Basant was shifted to Mathili hospital for treatment. In view of the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Malkangiri. However, the man died before reaching the DHH.
Reports indicate that petrol shortages have been ongoing in several parts of Malkangiri district.
