Bhubaneswar: Police in Odisha have arrested an employee of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) for allegedly sexually harassing a woman colleague in the public relations department.
The accused, posted in Rayagada, was taken into custody following a complaint filed with the Mahila police station. The complainant, who works in the same department, had accused two senior officials of misconduct.
According to a senior police officer, a case was registered against both officials after the initial complaint. One has now been arrested on charges of sexual harassment and inappropriate touching. “One accused was arrested recently after the woman alleged that he had sexually harassed and inappropriately touched her,” the officer stated.
The woman further alleged that the second official, who holds a supervisory position, supported the primary accused. She claimed additional harassment in the form of denied leave requests and a punitive transfer.
Police have so far not found evidence against the second official. “Though a case was registered against the two, no evidence has so far been found against the other official. Action will be initiated if the allegations against him are found to be true,” the TNIE reported, quoting the officer.
Names of both officials have been withheld.
