Bhubaneswar/Bhawanipatna: The Odisha Vigilance Department on Wednesday arrested an executive engineer (EE) of the Roads and Building (R&B) division, Bhubaneswar Sabar, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The arrest followed extensive simultaneous raids conducted on Tuesday at six locations linked to Sabar and his family members in Kalahandi district during which significant movable and immovable properties were unearthed.
According to Vigilance officials, Sabar was found to have acquired 97 plots of land measuring a mind-boggling 83 acres, five buildings, four of which are multi-storeyed in Gosanimunda in Bhawanipatna town, Kusumkhunti in Koksara and Dwarasuni; two farm houses spanning 17 acres at Kitpadar near Bhawanipatna town, one market complex with 8 cabins at Moter Chhak in Koksara, which he could not satisfactorily explain.
Besides, he owned Rs 10.72 lakh deposits, cash and household articles worth around Rs 19.78 lakh and a four-wheeler.
Background of the Officer
Sabar, born on June 26, 1979, joined government service on July 1, 1999, as a Junior Engineer with an initial salary of Rs 6,000 per month. He was promoted to Assistant Engineer in 2013, Assistant Executive Engineer in 2016, and Executive Engineer in March 2024. He has been serving in his current role with additional charge since January 2025.
A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
