Tehran: Iran claimed on Friday it has struck several US military aircraft stationed in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones following overnight American strikes on multiple locations in Tehran and other cities that resulted in deaths of at least eight people.
Jordan’s military earlier said it shot down three Iranian missiles, reporting no casualty or damage, reported AP.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said in a statement it destroyed “several US refuelling aircraft and fighter jets” and caused “serious damage to many more.”
The US is yet to respond to Iran’s claims.
IRGC also urged Jordanians to target the “interests of the aggressive and anti-Islamic Americans” in their country.
The IRGC said they had also attacked a US special operations command centre at Syria’s Al-Tanf in retaliation against the killing of Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr, state media reported.
In February, US military had said it has completely withdrawn from the Al-Tanf base positioned at the tri-border confluence of Syria, Jordan and Iraq.
US allies in Middle East targeted
Tehran also launched fresh missile attacks against US allies in the Middle East, including Qatar. A power and water desalination plant in Kuwait was damaged.
With the interim ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran collapsing, there has been a sharp escalation in West Asia and Gulf region, where the two nations are battling for control of the Strait of Hormuz.
On Donald Trump’s orders to target Iranian infrastructure, the US military has hit bridges, electrical equipment and a tower at a key port.
Iran’s call to use less power
Iran has, for the first time, acknowledged “attacks on power infrastructure” during the US airstrike campaign.
Iran’s Energy Ministry issued a call for people to use less power, especially in the badly-hit southern provinces. It said those areas are currently “experiencing extreme heat and attacks on power infrastructure.”
It was not specified whether the US strikes have hit power plants, transmission lines or other equipment.
