Kataka: A search operation was launched on Saturday after a youth went missing under mysterious circumstances near Mundali Bridge over Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Kataka.
The missing individual has been identified as Tukuna Sahu, a resident of Banki Krishnapur. The youth’s two-wheeler was found abandoned on the bridge, sparking fears that he might have jumped into the river.
According to sources, local police teams from Baranga, Athagarh, and the Godi Sahi outpost rushed to the spot immediately to initiate a preliminary inquiry, while the youth’s family members also reached the scene upon receiving the news.
Personnel from the Fire Services department have been deployed to search the river. The search operations are currently underway despite challenging conditions caused by rain and water depth. Rescue teams have expanded their search perimeter up to 2-km downstream from the bridge to trace the youth.
While the preliminary investigation is underway, police are looking into all angles, including potential personal issues or depression that might have driven the youth to take such a step. Further details are awaited as the investigation and rescue efforts continue.
