Hyderabad: Vijay’s much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan’, directed by H Vinoth, is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 23 after facing a prolonged certification battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film also made headlines in April after it was leaked online, leading to multiple arrests in connection with the case.
Producer K Venkata Narayana of KVN Productions has now said that audiences will see a new version of the film in theatres following the changes made to it.
During an interview with NDTV, when asked about reports that Vijay’s name had been shortened to ‘TVK’, the abbreviation of his political party, and the complications it had reportedly caused, the producer said, “I don’t know what I can tell or cannot tell at this juncture. But what I must say is there are a lot of modifications and additions to the film (Jana Nayagan).”
He further added, “What they (audience) is going to experience in theatres will be very different, with additions of some songs, some changes and everything. Yes, this movie, from the beginning of this year, has gone through many challenges to reach where it is today. I don’t want to give any spoilers.”
He also revealed that, like several of Vijay’s recent films, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is based on a social issue.
According to the producer, the film has a “strong and compelling” story that is expected to connect with audiences across different age groups.
The film, which is an adaptation of Anil Ravipudi’s Telugu film ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’, also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde in lead roles.
Bookings for ‘Jana Nayagan’ have opened in international markets, while advance bookings are yet to begin in India.
