Lucknow: BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Nanak Ram Bhurji died on Tuesday after falling from the seventh floor of the new Darulshafa MLA residence complex in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area.
According to Hazratganj police, the Estate Officer of Darulshafa complex informed the local police outpost about the incident. After reaching the spot, the outpost in-charge rushed Bhurji to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police are investigating whether Bhurji, who was was associated with the BJP’s Backward Class Cell, jumped or fell from the building.
During initial inquiry, residents at the MLA complex reportedly told police that Bhurji had been suffering from depression for some time and was often seen moving around the premises though he did not live there.
The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Investigators are examining evidence collected from the scene, CCTV footage and statements from eyewitnesses.
