Mumbai: Singer-composer Amaal Mallik has announced that he is taking a break from film music to focus on his health, while assuring fans that he will return with new melodies.
The composer made the announcement in an X (formerly Twitter) post on August 27, where he also shared a picture from a hospital, prompting concern among his fans.
He captioned the post, “Too much Awarapan leads to this only.”
Amaal’s announcement comes weeks after he reacted to the criticism surrounding ‘Yeh Awarapan’, his track from Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2, and alleged that a “paid PR” campaign was targeting the song.
“I am all good & I will go all the way in, this time, to do what is best for me & only do what is important to my heart & for my health. Need a break for my mind, body, soul and overall physical healing. Need to rise, recuperate and bounce back soon with a heart full of melodies for you all my dearest #Amaalians,” he wrote.
Amaal clarified that he will not be taking up any new film music projects until next year, while assuring fans that some of his previously recorded but unreleased songs will arrive soon.
“PS – No more film music till next year, old unreleased film songs will arrive soon if the films even end up releasing, as they are smaller budget movies with good intent and such people don’t get screens easily so don’t know the future of those projects… Please request you not to pester me any further. Will update as I get to know,” he added.
He concluded, “Music se cinema tak ka safar mujhe bohot door le aaya hai, ab music ki taraf wapas chalne laga hoon…. Ab mujhe Vida Karo, I’ll be back Anyway signing off for a bit… . . . . – The Creator of #YehAwarapan.”

Meanwhile, in a recent Instagram post, Amaal celebrated the response to ‘Yeh Awarapan’ and reflected on the criticism the song has received in recent weeks.
He alleged that a “paid PR” campaign had been orchestrated against his music, but said the genuine support and love from listeners mattered more to him than numbers, streaming statistics or industry politics.
“The kinda paid PR that happened around my song was evident, it made me angry, upset and hysterical. This one has been my most difficult chapter & and seeing people try to pull ME and MY MUSIC down only makes me realize how much my MELODY must’ve disturbed their SOUL,” he wrote.
The song from Awarapan 2 features vocals by Arijit Singh, who announced his decision to step away from playback singing in January this year.
