Baripada: A Class IX student of a residential school was found to be around five months pregnant in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district and police have detained a youth in this connection.
According to information, a case was registered at Badashahi police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by the minor girl’s family. A youth allegedly involved in the incident has been taken into custody.
It was alleged in the complaint that the girl was sexually assaulted by a youth from a neighbouring house during her summer vacation. The accused allegedly took advantage of the absence of other family members and threatened the girl with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
After the vacation, the girl returned to her school hostel. During an examination conducted by the school authorities this week, she was found to be pregnant, following which the school informed her family.
The family subsequently took the minor for a medical examination, which reportedly confirmed that she was approximately five months pregnant. The girl then disclosed the incident to her family, following which they approached the police.
Badshahi police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused, identified as Rabindra Singh of the same area, has been brought to the police station and detained. Further investigation is in progress.
