Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has filed a suo motu case against former Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly violating a Calcutta high court order. According to reports, the HC had issued some directions for holding Trinamool Congress students wing rally on Friday in Kolkata.
The court had permitted Banerjee to celebrate Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad’s foundation day on August 28 on Cathedral Road. However, the court had reportedly directed that only one of the flanks must not be used for the rally and kept open to allow vehicular traffic.
The police said that the flank wasn’t kept open. Therefore, the Kolkata Police claimed it to be a violation of the court’s order. The cops also said the high court-specified time limit for the event was exceeded.
