New Delhi: The alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl inside a moving bus in Delhi earlier this month has drawn ire of several political parties and leaders. They have condemned the horrific crime that has stirred the memories of 2012 Nirbhaya case.

Congress called the incident that took place between Greater Noida and Delhi “shocking.” The party also alleged that both Uttar Pradesh and the national capital, where the crime tool place, are ruled by the BJP. It alleged that police “turned a deaf ear and slept on”.

“No patrolling, no checking…This incident not only exposes the hollow claims of women’s safety but also shows that criminals have no fear of the law,” Congress wrote on X  on Monday.

Similarly, Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi raised concern on the increasing crimes against women. “The Uttar Pradesh government is of the BJP. The Delhi government is of the BJP. The Uttar Pradesh Police is of the BJP. The Delhi Police is of the BJP. The LG is from the BJP. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is of the BJP. The Prime Minister is from the BJP. Is there any institution left that is not with the BJP?” she asked in an interview to PTI.

“Then what is stopping them from taking action against rapists? The police has so much time that if someone abuses Modi ji in a video, they will find them even in hell. But girls are being raped and gang-raped. In all these years, the BJP government has not been able to stop this. What was your police doing? Today, those committing rape have no fear of the police because they know the police will not catch them. Even if they are caught, there will be no evidence. A settlement will be reached with them. They will get bail,” she added.

She asked when would BJP work to keep the daughters of this country safe and secure.

Earlier, police had arrested two men for allegedly gangraping a 16-year-old girl on a moving bus in Greater Noida earlier this month.

The accused in this case have been identified as bus driver, Kuldeep, 39, and the conductor, Sandeep, 26. They were arrested from a parking lot in north Delhi’s Timarpur, reported NDTV.

The teen was on her way to Noida from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri, when the incident took place. According to reports, the survivor had left home for her cousin’s place in Noida without telling her family after her mother scolded her over studies.

She deboarded the bus amid incessant rain at Noida’s Pari Chowk. From this point, she needed a ride to reach her destination, which was still 25 km far. She, thereafter, boarded another bus, which apparently had no passengers. According to reports, this bus was a sleeper bus meant for longer route travel.

Though the bus was returning from a workshop in Greater Noida, the conductor allegedly told her that they too had been heading towards Noida Sector 63. The girl, thus, boarded it.

The accused, then, sexually assaulted her inside the bus, before dumping her at a place some 40 km from Delhi.
