Bhubaneswar: Another low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts in the second week of September, meteorologists said on Friday.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) extended-range outlook for cyclogenesis, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 9. The system is expected to form off the south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the same region around September 11, raising the likelihood of heavy rain in several parts of Odisha.
The system is subsequently likely to move north-westwards and maintain its intensity till September 13, the outlook added.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall together with thunderstorm activity is likely to continue across the state over the next one week. The intensity of rainfall is expected to increase from the morning of September 9.
On September 9-10, the IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain over the districts of Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Heavy rain is also likely to lash several parts of Sundaragada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on September 10-11. The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for these districts during this period.
