Brahmapur: Four persons, including three women, were arrested for allegedly duping several youths by promising them government jobs in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The accused have been identified as Narayan Sethi and Deepa Behera of Paikajamuna village under Kabisuryanagar block, Bishnupriya Behera of Purunagram and Sunita Das of Agastinuagaon.
Police sources said that the accused conducted a fake interview at a private Kalyan Mandap in Chhatrapur on Thursday. They were reportedly promising different jobs, including accountants and peons, in blocks and tehsils.
Some of the job aspirants grew suspicious when the accused demanded large sums of money from the candidates during the interview. Some of them informed the police, following which a team reached the spot and detained several persons for questioning.
During the preliminary investigation, police reportedly found that the accused had been allegedly cheating young men and women in Chhatrapur and other places of the district for more than a year by promising them jobs. They allegedly collected money from candidates by issuing fake appointment letters and identity cards.
The police subsequently arrested the four accused and seized Rs 25,000 in cash, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, fake appointment letters and identity cards from their possession.
