Rayagada: Fresh allegations of ragging, assault and student harassment have emerged at the hostel of a residential school in Odisha’s Rayagada district.
According to information, a Class VI student was allegedly subjected to ragging and physical abuse by seniors at a residential school in Penta area of the district.
A video purportedly showing the incident has gone viral on social media. In the video, a person claims that junior students at the school are being harassed by seniors. A junior student is seen speaking about the alleged harassment while crying.
The junior student reportedly sustained an injury to his left hand in the incident.
According to the allegations made in the video, a Class X student physically assaulted junior students and forced them to perform various tasks. The junior student also alleged that they were made to wash clothes. The student further claimed that seniors forced them to remove their pants.
The identity of the person who recorded the video is not known. It is also unclear how long such alleged incidents have been taking place at the residential school.
Local residents have alleged that the school authorities attempted to suppress the matter. They reportedly informed the family of the victim about the alleged harassment.
District Welfare Officer of Rayagada Asima Rao said the matter is under investigation and officials were verifying the authenticity of the incident shown in the viral video. Appropriate steps would be taken after receiving the probe report.
