Baleshwar: TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has achieved a major operational milestone by surpassing 50,000 rooftop solar installations across its five-district service area, with cumulative installations reaching 51,004.

This sustained month-on-month acceleration underscores growing consumer confidence in renewable energy and reflects a structural shift towards sustainable electricity distribution in northern Odisha.

District-wise performance demonstrates broad-based participation across TPNODL’s operational circles. Baleshwar leads with 18,559 installations, followed by Mayurbhanj with 10,824, Jajpur with 9,295, Bhadrak with 6,575, and Kendujhar with 5,751 installations. These figures highlight the effectiveness of integrating public subsidies with localized execution support, simplified application workflows, and dedicated consumer services. Consequently, a significant number of participating households have received zero-unit electricity bills, while the majority have reported a substantial reduction in monthly electricity expenditure.

The rapid growth in rooftop solar adoption is underpinned by strong policy support from the Central and State Governments, along with streamlined implementation by the Discom and its business associates. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, residential consumers are eligible for substantial subsidies that significantly reduce capital investment. A standard 3 kW system qualifies for a combined Central and State subsidy of up to Rs. 1.38 lakh, while a 2 kW system can avail financial assistance of up to Rs. 1.10 lakh. Further, to democratize access to clean energy for low-income households, the Government has introduced the 1 kW ULA model, enabling installations at an initial cost of just Rs. 1,875 through Discoms.

Commenting on the achievement, Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Chief Executive Officer, TPNODL, said, “Surpassing 50,000 installations reflects the growing trust of consumers in sustainable energy solutions. This milestone belongs to the consumers of northern Odisha who have embraced solar power as a reliable alternative source of energy. We remain committed to a consumer-centric approach focused on enhancing operational efficiency, streamlining consumer services, and expanding equitable access to affordable and reliable electricity for households across the region.”

By aligning consumer-focused services with continuous network augmentation, infrastructure upgradation, and deployment of cutting-edge technologies, TPNODL is transforming the power infrastructure in northern Odisha. This growth is anchored in the organization’s core priorities of safety-first approach, operational excellence, commercial stewardship and sustainability. Through systematic strengthening of the power network, process simplification, and responsible resource management, TPNODL remains committed to delivering reliable and quality power supply, enhancing consumer experience, and driving inclusive and sustainable growth across the region.

Consumers interested in adopting rooftop solar solutions may contact their local electricity office or reach TPNODL’s customer care helpline at 1800-3456-718 / 1912 for technical and administrative assistance.
