Bhubaneswar: Rainfall intensity is likely to subside in Odisha for two days from Sunday and then gain momentum in several parts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
Heavy rain and thunderstorm activity is expected to continue in the next 24 hours, while several districts will encounter thunderstorms till the morning of September 15. The IMD has issued a yellow warning of thunderstorm and heavy rain till the morning of September 18.
In a weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall for the districts of Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri during the next 24 hours.
During the same period, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.
On September 13-14, the weather agency issued a yellow warning of thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada. Similar weather is forecast for September 14-15 in several districts.
On September 15-16, the IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain over the districts of Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Similarly, yellow warning of heavy rain has been sounded for Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on September 16-17, while Mayurbhanj district is likely to face heavy rain on September 17-18.
