Bhadrak: At least 24 people were injured, ten of them critically, after a pilgrim bus from West Bengal to Odisha’s Puri dashed against another bus near Dhamra railway overbridge in Bhadrak district in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the accident took place at around 2.25 am on National Highway 16 when one bus reportedly travelling from Hooghly to Puri rammed into another pilgrim bus.
Sources said over 35 passengers were travelling in the bus when the accident occurred. Over 24 passengers sustained injuries in the collision. Ten of them were reported to be in a critical condition.
Acter receiving information about the mishap, fire service personnel reached the spot rescued the passengers from the buses.
The injured passengers were rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for medical attention.
Police also reached the spot and assisted in the rescue operation. An investigation was launched to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
