Udala: A video showing a heated confrontation involving Udala MLA Bhaskar Madhei during a visit to flood-affected areas in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention across online platforms.
The incident occurred while the legislator was inspecting inundated localities to assess ground reality and coordinate relief efforts.
According to reports and the circulating footage, an intoxicated youth approached the MLA, hurled abuses, accused him of visiting solely for political gain, and allegedly attempted to physically assault him. While the video captures Madhei expressing strong displeasure over the unruly behavior, it also shows him maintaining composure while attempting to reason with the aggressive individual to de-escalate the situation.
While local police have taken note of the viral clip, the MLA maintained that the video posted online exaggerates the incident, misrepresenting what occurred on the ground. Madhei explained that during his ground visit, he had paused to express gratitude to a local youth who was voluntarily distributing free food to flood victims. It was at this point that another individual, under the influence of alcohol, confronted him aggressively.
“This is not a matter of vote politics; our focus during flood conditions is strictly on addressing the hardships and plight of the general public. Those spreading this on social media are exaggerating the incident, as they have done in the past before elections,” he emphasised, pointing out his track record in the constituency, including sanctioning ₹70 crore for local infrastructure development.
