Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is set to launch an investigation into the much-discussed case involving Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikhiri in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
According to sources, a three-member team of the NHRC is scheduled to visit Kendrapara on October 5 to initiate the investigation into the controversy.
As part of the probe, the rights panel will look into to allegations of assault and misbehaviour with Chameli Ojha inside the chamber of the Mahakalapada BDO on June 11.
The NHRC has already sent a communication the Kendrapara District Collector and Superintendent of Police regarding the visit of its team.
During the visit, the NHRC team is set to question various people connected with the incident. Reports suggest that the Mahakalapada Police, BDO, employees of the BDO office, eyewitnesses present at the spot, the investigating officer and the doctor concerned are expected to be questioned.
The NHRC team will also examine the circumstances surrounding the allegations as part of the inquiry. The investigation is scheduled to be carried out during the team’s visit to the district.
No reaction has so far been received from the district administration or the police in connection with the NHRC team’s visit.
