Bhubaneswar: In an effort to ensure an inclusive and error-free electoral roll, the Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted a three-day special voter registration drive across Odisha from October 7 to 9.
The campaign aimed at providing an opportunity to new and young voters, and eligible voters whose names were left out during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, to get enrolled.
Officials said altogether 26,446 special camps were organised across districts during the campaign. Through these camps, eligible citizens were made aware of the registration process and facilitated to submit applications.
During the drive, 1,448 Form-6 applications were received from eligible voters whose names were not included in the voter list earlier, while 32,067 applications came from new and young voters. In total, 33,515 Form-6 applications were received, officials said.
Door-to-door visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue till the end of October. During this period, BLOs will visit households to sensitise citizens about registration, inclusion and corrections in the voter list and provide necessary guidance, especially to those left out during SIR and newly eligible youth to apply through Form-6.
As per ECI instructions, the campaign was organised to ensure no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral roll. The enthusiastic participation of young voters contributed to the large number of applications, officials added.
The special campaign is an important step towards preparation of a clean, accurate and inclusive voter list and ensuring participation of all eligible citizens in the democratic process.
