Jaipur: A collision between a Traveller and a trailer on National Highway-48 near Bagru in Rajasthan left three people dead and 19 others injured in the wee hours of Saturday, ANI reported.
Police said the mishap occurred when the Traveller reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle and crashed into the trailer. The driver was absent when police reached the site, with passengers claiming that he abandoned the vehicle and ran away.
Investigating officer Lalaram said a Police Mitra alerted the force to the accident at about 2 am. A patrol party was rushed to the location, where officials found badly damaged vehicles, debris strewn on the road and heavy congestion caused by the crash.
“Three people died on the spot,” Lalaram said, adding that ambulances moved the bodies to a hospital.
Police said 19 passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Seven of them were shifted to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for specialised care, while the others were taken to the Sub-District Hospital.
The Traveller was on its way from Khatu Shyam to Salasar and was carrying passengers from Nashik. One injured passenger said the crash took place roughly 20 to 30 km after Jaipur. He alleged that the driver escaped while the occupants were asleep.
“There were also children aged 9-10 months on the bus, and a total of 30 people were travelling, including the children,” the passenger said. The passenger also said three people died at the site and around seven to eight were injured.
Details are awaited.
