Mumbai: Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly received an extortion threat from an individual claiming to have links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
According to reports, the actor received a threatening audio message in which the sender allegedly demanded crores of rupees.
India Today reported that the Mumbai Police have launched an investigation and are working to establish the identity of the person behind the threat.
Investigators are examining the audio recording and comparing the sender’s voice with samples in their database to verify the alleged gang links.
The threat comes a day after actor Tusshar Kapoor reportedly received an extortion call, which police later suspected to be a hoax.
Investigators are probing whether the two incidents are connected or unrelated.
Police are also attempting to trace those behind the messages and ascertain whether they have genuine links to organised crime or are using such claims to intimidate members of the film industry.
The latest threats come amid heightened security concerns following the October 18 firing incident involving Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area.
Armed men on motorcycles allegedly opened fire at his car as he was leaving a football ground. While Tiger escaped unharmed, three people, including his driver and an autorickshaw driver, sustained injuries.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang later claimed responsibility for the attack.
On the work front, Ayushmann was last seen alongside Sara Ali Khan in ‘Udta Teer’.
He is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Yeh Prem Mol Liya’, co-starring Sharvari.
