Bhubaneswar: The Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, known to withstand high impacts in case of derailments and head-on-collision, will replace the conventional coaches in as many as 30 trains operated by East Coast Railway (ECoR).
The decision was taken at a meeting of top railway officials here on Saturday, chaired by Member Rolling Stock, Railway Board, Rajesh Agarwal.
Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi express will also have rake comprising LHB coaches. As of now, there are about 15 LHB-run trains operating under ECoR jurisdiction.
These coaches are crash-proof and considerably reduces the likelihood of them toppling on one another in case of mishaps.
The Mancheswar workshop will be upgraded to maintain the LHB coaches as well, the meeting decided.
Some key takeaways from the meeting:
- Bhubaneswar and Puri will have mechanised laundry facilities in the next three months.
2. All local trains operating in EcoR will have MEMU coaches as the second phase of the expansion of the MEMU shed in Jhurda road railway station has been sanctioned.
3. More wagons will be given to ECoR for the benefit of local industries and coal producers.
