A Legacy Of Over 70 Years: Know What Lata Mangeshkar Considered Her Biggest Achievement
Bhubaneswar: Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar was feted with awards and honours, including the country’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna. She was also conferred with Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award and three National Film Awards. She won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer awards on four occasions.
The singing maestro had also made it to Guinness World Records for singing the maximum number of songs in the world.
Her voice mirrored every emotion as she sang not just in Hindi but in almost every other Indian language, totalling over 30,000. She had recorded her first song in 1942 in the Marathi film ‘Kiti Hasaal’ at the age of 13.

When the legendary singer was asked about her biggest achievement, she had humbly said that there are “so many” singers who are better than her.
“To be honest, my biggest achievement is that janate ne malaa pasand kele (the people liked me), they showered me with so much love and affection and gave my singing and me a consistently great response. I personally feel from the core of my heart that this is all my parents’ and my gurus’ blessings and my destiny that I was able to reach where I did. I cannot really say that I have done all this,” she told The Indian Express in an interview in 2009.

The 92-year-old, who passed away on Sunday, will receive a state funeral, and the Government will observe state mourning with the flag at half-mast through Monday.
