London: The Kashmir Files director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and actress-producer wife Pallavi Joshi were bestowed with the rare honour of speaking at the UK Parliament on Wednesday.
They were invited at an event themed ‘India, World Peace and Humanism’, hosted by former minister Baroness Sandip Verma and Member of Parliament Gagan Mohindra.
The event, marking the importance of freedom of expression and human rights of minorities, was attended by several MPs from House of Commons and House of Lords as well as local elected Councillors from across the UK.
“Extremely proud to be the first filmmakers ever to receive such honour. It’s our mission for the world to recognise Kashmiri Hindu Genocide through our art. #HumanityTour #TKFAtBritishParliament,” Vivek tweeted.
Describing the event as ‘historical’, the filmmaker further tweeted: “Last night was historical as for the first time ever so many ideologically diverse MPs, Lords, Baronesses, Mayors & Councillors stood up in support of Kashmiri Hindus and pledged to take the cause of GENOCIDE further at the @UKParliament #TKFAtBritishParliament #HumanityTour.”
The Kashmir Files, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the early 1990s, was released in theatres on March 11 this year and started streaming on OTT platform two months later.
The film, starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi among others, was widely viewed, attracting positive reviews as well as flak from political circles.
