Washington DC: If Donald Trump were to be believed, Iran’s apocalypse moment is just hours away.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in his early morning (US Eastern Time) post, describing it as “one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World.”
The US President has set Iran an 8 pm ET (5.30 am IST Wednesday) deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face complete destruction of its infrastructure.
Roughly 12 hours ahead of that deadline, with Iran having rejected the ceasefire proposal, the US and Israel unleashed fresh strikes on the Islamic Republic on Tuesday, aimed at the Kharg Island oil hub and various infrastructure and energy plants.
Trump expressed optimism that Iran’s leadership will still change.
“Now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end,” Trump added in his post.
Trump’s previous deadline to Iran was March 23, but that changed several times as the President kept issuing threats, announced delays and claimed that peace talks were underway.
Iran has been defiant and stubborn all through, rejecting Trump’s ceasefire proposal and stressing on a permanent end to the war.
