Nabarangpur: With blind beliefs and social evils continuing to be prevalent among tribal communities, a young boy of Nabarangpur has taken upon the taks of promoting awareness through entertainment.
Biswanath Bisoi of Duragaon in the district along with some his friends has already produced 60 short films and uploaded those on YouTube in the last three years.
Initially, the young team shot the films in mobile phone and procured a small camera recently. Their goal seems to have fructified as the use of local language in the films is understood by the tribals.
“Our first film in 2017 elicited overwhelming response. It was liked by lakhs of viewers. Encouraged by overwhelming response, we shot another film of half an hour duration. It was also highly appreciated and went viral. We were asked to produce more such films,” said 22-year-old Biswanath.
The films are based on social and health issues like malaria, typhoid and present COVID-19. “We have made films to dispel blind beliefs like using hot iron rods on children to cure them of diseases which are widely prevalent among the tribal communities in the area,” said a girl member of the team.
Though being an adivasi girl, she said she is supported by her family and is encouraged by the film crew to continue the work. “Besides, I get a lot of pleasure in doing the work which not only entertains the people but also promotes awareness in the society”, she said.
