Ludhiana: Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has conceded defeat in the Punjab assembly elections, bowing to the ‘voice of God’.
“The voice of the people is the voice of God… Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!” Sidhu tweeted a while ago.
The final results have not yet been declared, but AAP is leading in 91 of the 117 assembly constituencies, while Congress is ahead in just 17.
Sidhu is trailing by over 5,000 votes to AAP candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur in the Amritsar East constituency, while former CM Captain Amarinder Singh is set to lose for the first time from Patiala.
Captain Amarinder, who formed a new party called Punjab Lok Congress Party after quitting Congress last year, garnered 26.571 votes while AAP’s Ajit Pal Singh Kohli got 43,320 votes.
