Balasore: An infant girl was found abandoned beside a mosque in Ward 6 of Nilgiri NAC in Odisha’s Balasore district early on Sunday.
According to sources, the newborn was rescued by locals, who was then admitted her to sub-district hospital at Nilagiri and informed police. The infant was later shifted to district headquarters hospital in Balasore.

After the matter got disclosed, the women of the village suspected on a pregnant woman who was staying in a rented house nearby. When confronted, Ramesh Naik and Damayanthi of Kalakad village of Nilgiri block admitted to having abandoned the newborn and also apologised.
