Koraput: An abandoned newborn girl was rescued by the locals from a culvert at Kebidi village under Sadar police limits in Koraput on Monday morning.
According to sources, the newborn was buried alive wrapped in a cloth near the culvert. Some locals, including a old woman, heard the infant crying and rescued her.
The villagers then informed the police and took her to Rabanaguda Community Health Centre (CHC). She was admitted to the ICU in a critical.
The infant is suffering from mild hypothermia and has a visible cleft on her lips. It may be the reason why her parents dumped her, said the doctor.
