Mumbai: At least, nine people were injured on Sunday (Oct 27) in a stampede at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai, according to reports. The stampede occurred as passengers tried to board the train heading towards Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
While two have sustained critical injuries, the condition of at least seven people is stated to be stable, reported the NDTV. According to the officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the stampede occurred due to the festive rush before Diwali.
Reports stated that when Train number 22921 from Bandra to Gorakhpur arrived at the platform number 1, a huge crowd of passengers gathered at the platform.

According to sources, there was a rush of passengers as the weekly train to Gorakhpur was re-scheduled and had to depart at 5:10 am.

But even after it was re-scheduled, it arrived late at the platform. Around 3 am, a huge rush was seen at the platform. The incident reportedly took place around 5.56 am. The passengers were attempting to board the general compartment of the train, leading to a stampede.
