Accused In Salman Khan Residence Firing Case Dies After Attempting Suicide In Police Custody

Mumbai: Anuj Thapan, arrested in Bollywood actor Salman Khan residence firing case, was rushed to a nearby hospital after he allegedly attempted suicide in lock-up of Mumbai Police’s crime branch on Wednesday but died while receiving treatment.

The 32-year-old was accused of providing weapons to two shooters who fired shots outside Salman Kan’s house in Mumbai.

According to the police, Thapan tried to end his life in police custody. After the incident, he was rushed to Mumbai’s GT Hospital where his condition remained critical. Shortly after, the accused died, India Today reported.

The Mumbai Police arrested Thapan alongwith another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander (37), from Punjab on April 25.

In a proceeding held on camera, Special Judge A M Patil had on Monday remanded the 32-year-old along with Vicky Gupta (24),and  Sagar Pal (21) to police custody and sent Sonu Kumar Chander Bishnoi (37) to judicial custody on medical grounds.

The Mumbai Police invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against all accused arrested in the case.

The case pertains to April 14 incident when two motorbike-borne men fired at Galaxy Apartment in Bandra. Anmol later claimed responsibility for the firing through a Facebook post. Gupta and Pal, both residents of Bihar, were apprehended from Kutch on April 16, while Sonu Bishnoi and Thapan were nabbed from Punjab on April 25.

Lawrence Bishnoi, accused of several crimes, is lodged in a jail in Sabarmati in Gujarat.
